ASTTBC Makes Changes to the CPD Program

ASTTBC has made some changes to the CPD program that go into effect immediately. These changes were accepted by the provincial government on September 9, 2025. Below is a breakdown of the key changes:

ROWPs must collect and report on 12 CPD hours per year (no change).

  • CPD hours must be recorded by May 31. This is a change from the November 30 deadline. This means that as the last reporting date was November 20, 2024, ROWPs have until May 31, 2026 to record their CPD points. This will allow 18 months between reporting periods for the 2025 reporting year.
  • ROWPS will now only be required to complete 2 hours of Indigenous Awareness & Reconciliation training one time over the course of their career. If they have completed a 2-hour Indigenous Awareness and Reconciliation training within the last four years, they no longer are required to complete further training on this topic. This is a significant change.
    • If ROWPs choose to take further training on Indigenous Awareness & Reconciliation they may still record those hours for CPD under the category of Industry Education Outreach and Engagement
    • New registrants (new ROWPs) will have to complete the two hours of Indigenous Awareness & Reconciliation in their first registration year.
  • The hourly limit for self-directed learning has been removed, so it is no longer capped at 8 hours. A ROWP can complete all twelve hours of their CPDs with self-directed learning or a combination of self-directed, structured, and other CPD activities. This is a significant change.
  • Volunteer hours still have a cap of 8 hours. This is a change from the previous guidelines.

New registrants from Nov 15, 2024 to present:

  • CPD begins following a new registrant’s first renewal. Therefore, those who have registered after November 15, 2024 have until May 31, 2027 to complete and record their first twelve CPDs.
  • As noted above, new registrants must complete the basic two hours of Indigenous Awareness and Reconciliation training.

New categories

  • Industry Education, Outreach, and Engagement – now includes technical training, volunteer activities, industry engagement. NEW
  • Structured learning is primarily courses with a pass/fail outcome. NEW
  • Category limit for reading technical information is now limited to four hours. Even if a technical manual or book takes over four hours to read, registrants may only claim four hours. NEW

ASTTBC will be updating their online CPD Guidelines, ASTTBC Online Accounts, and how-to videos.

CPD Points collected that exceed twelve CPD credits:

  • Should be recorded on a ROWP’s personal profile. ASTTBC will automatically forward up to six of the excess CPD credit hours to the next reporting year.

Deadline dates:

  • To renew registration with ASTTBC and maintain Stamps: November 30
  • To report and record CPD Points: May 31

Renewing registration is no longer tied to recording CPD Points. Registration may be renewed even if CPD points have not been collected or recorded. NEW

Recordkeeping

  • ROWPs must maintain proof of their CPD hours for 10 years

All CPD activities recorded must relate to the registrant’s discipline.
