The Capital Regional District recently sent out an email updating people in the onsite wastewater industry of a notice they are preparing to send out.  The information is below.  Should you have any questions, please contact Tara at the CRD.

An information notice for those in the Onsite Wastewater Industry

We are preparing to send out notices to property owners within Colwood, Langford, Saanich and View Royal if we had not received notification that they have pumped out their system as required by CRD Bylaw 3479.  There are approximately 1300 residents who will receive the notice and local businesses and ROWPs may receive phone calls from property owners wanting to book a pump-out.  The notices are scheduled to be mailed out the week of August 11th, 2014.

Some residents may be requesting receipts if their digital notification had an error and did not get registered against their address.  We have a less than 5% rate of error and attempt to correct the errors by contacting the service providers.  However some errors do occur and we suggest that homeowners keep their receipts as proof of service.  Homeowners are required to keep all records of maintenance under Bylaw 3479.  Receipts can be emailed to septic@crd.bc.ca 

Background:

Under CRD Bylaw 3479, owners of Type 1 systems within the municipalities of Saanich, Colwood, Langford and View Royal are required to have their systems pumped-out at least once every five years.  Five years is intended to be a maximum time frame, many systems require more frequent pumping depending on the size of the tank and the activities in the home.  Upon disposal at SPL address are reported and submitted electronically to the CRD and homeowners do not need to mail in receipts.  Owners are required to keep records of maintenance and provide it to the CRD upon request. 

Also for your information:

• CRD Certification of Maintenance forms are only required for Type 2 and 3 systems in Saanich, Colwood, Langford and View Royal at this time and are not required for maintenance of Type 1 systems.
