Practical Training – Soils Evaluation and Field Installation – Denman Island

\"denmanSteve Carballeira and Garth Millan led a group of students in a three day practical training session on Denman Island on September 21, 22 & 23.

Participants on the 21st walked through the steps for a soils assessment with Steve, discussed techniques and best practices, logged two available test pits and followed that up with a half-day classroom session on the filing and planning for the system being installed.

\"denmanOn the 22nd and 23rd, Garth led the students in the decommissioning of the old system and the installation of the new system.  Participants set and bedded the septic tank and dose tank, dug and placed the distribution line and built the soils treatment component in this pressure distributed field. \"distribution\"

A small class size allowed participants to actively engage in the installation process, while taking time to discuss tips, techniques and best practices.  WCOWMA-BC was especially pleased to have a Health Officer from Island Health Authority present.

In an effort to enhance our public education opportunities, the site was open for the public to observe the work done on the 23rd.
